Here at Big Cat we are always on the lookout for young talent in all of our departments, and we often take on interns for three month placements to offer young people at the start of their career a chance to gain invaluable agency experience. For the past 3 months, Emily has been working with our Marketing team and now her time at Big Cat is coming to an end, she gives us a quick round up of the things she’s learned in her time with us.

I came to Big Cat having just graduated with a degree in Modern Languages and very little understanding of marketing and agencies, and boy, have I come a long way since then. Here are my top 3 things I have learned in my 3 months here.

  1. The Marketing Lingo – I feel like I have learned a whole new language since starting out at Big Cat. At first, SEO, PPC  and eDMs were more foreign to me than Chinese, but now I know that SEO is Search Engine Optimization and that it is incredibly important if you want to increase your business’s online visibility. And as for eDMs, I have had the opportunity to try my hand at creating and sending them for Big Cat.
  2. The Agency Environment – Everyone always told me that working in an agency is fast-paced work, and they were right. No day is the same here. From working on social media and blogs, to researching for pitches, or photographing food for our clients – my time at Big Cat has covered a lot of bases and has definitely prepared me for life working in an agency.
  3. The Best Team – Okay so maybe I didn’t learn this, but I could not have asked to work amongst a better team. They made me welcome from day one and have made certain that everyday has been as fun and enjoyable as possible. Big Cat socials and Friday’s Wine and Wotsits have been highlights! When I leave I will miss the exciting projects, but it is the Big Cat Pride I will miss the most!

We’ll miss you too Emily – you have been a complete superstar!

If you are looking to gain experience in a fun-filled, fast-paced agency environment then Big Cat is definitely the place for you. We offer placements in Marketing, PR and Design at our office in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, so send your CV over to We look forward to hearing from you!
