Following a highly anticipated build-up, crowds flocked to Grand Central after its doors opened to Birmingham (and HRH Queen Elizabeth II for a special launch event!) in September. Since then, it’s quickly become the go-to place for shopping and dining in the city centre.
After being employed as the press office for Grand Central, Big Cat successfully tendered to produce a new magazine for the destination in time for the festive period. This was to be the first of its kind and needed to set apart from other shopping centre publications, which often just act as a catalogue for products available.
GC Magazine was developed as a source for Grand Central content but also a gateway to the wider cultural and gastronomical offerings of Birmingham’s city centre. Articles were provided by bloggers and Grand Central retailers alike, covering topics from seasonal sangria recipes by Tapas Revolution to Jewellery Quarter designers.
The team at Big Cat worked closely with the Grand Central client to fully understand what the magazine needed to communicate. Following a thorough conceptual stage, a a dynamic and contemporary layout was chosen.
The subtle, muted colour palette is offset with bold headlines overlaid onto photography to create a stylish, modern aesthetic that mirrors the magazines content. The premium visual language was also reinforced by high quality, tactile finishes applied to the print publication.
Everyone in the Big Cat pride is really proud with the final result and you can now get your paws on a copy in Grand Central. Alternatively, peruse the digital publication available online (for desktop, mobile and tablet) at: grandcentralbirmingham.com/gc
P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for the next edition coming out in March 2016!
