Karaoke popularity is reaching new highs but Birmingham has been deprived of this much loved leisure activity with very little karaoke bars on offer, until now! Last Thursday night saw the launch of Karaoke Box; with three venues already dotted around London, this premier private karaoke destination has brought its tried and tested formula to the second city. With 11 rooms to choose from, accommodating between 4 and 25 people, plus a swanky VIP room if you’re feeling flush, it’s the perfect answer to a fun-filled, hilarious night out.

The Big Cat team exhausted their vocal chords on Thursday at the VIP Launch event for Karaoke Box Birmingham. Karaoke, cocktails and canapés were the order of the night for VIP guests and lucky competition winners. Rapper and songwriter, Professor Green made a special celebrity appearance and was on hand to watch fans sing their way through their favourite hits and he even joined them for a few tracks. The success of the night was reflected in the 200 guests who were welcomed through the doors and greeted by a champagne reception. There were Pina Coladas on tap to get those in the mood and chase away any lingering inhibitions, and take it from us, after a few drinks, nothing seemed like a better idea than picking up the mic and belting out a few classic tunes.

Birmingham was the obvious choice for Karaoke Box as they expand outside of London with their Director commenting: “Birmingham, as the second city, has seen a huge regeneration and the food and drink scene is rapidly expanding. We didn’t want to miss out on introducing our karaoke experience to this buzzing and vibrant City. People of Birmingham embrace novelty so we feel confident that they will welcome Karaoke Box with open arms.”

Over the past 3 months, the Big Cat team has been hard at work providing marketing and PR services to build excitement and awareness of the arrival of Karaoke Box to Birmingham. A dedicated team consisting of Hannah Davies (Marketing Director), Keshia Chauhan (Marketing Executive) and Christie Galloway (PR Director) have enjoyed every moment of it.

Marketing activity has consisted of:

  • A series of targeted eDMs (designed by our design studio) were sent out over the course of 2 months in the lead up to the VIP Launch Event, and Grand Opening to the general public.
  • Guest list management – ensuring the city’s key influencers were at the opening of Birmingham’s newest and exciting venue.
  • Social post boosting – amplifying content with ad spend to ensure key messages were reaching Karaoke Box’s target audience.
  • PPC campaign to raise profile of website, and drive traffic to new Birmingham landing page

Through fully integrated launch PR activity we built excitement and awareness of the arrival of Karaoke Box to Birmingham. We shared stories with the media about their first move from outside of London and how the city’s plushest karaoke cocktail bar was injecting some much needed love into Birmingham’s karaoke scene. Through ‘sneak peeks’ in the lead up to launch we built up excitement, and continued momentum through the development of a social media content plan which piggybacked, on key news in pop culture. In addition we developed a PR stunt ‘Cabbie-oke’ which aimed to generate conversation prior to the launch. We offered the greatest and most entertaining taxi journey of all time where unsuspecting punters were surprised with an option to take part in a show stopping performance. We created a pop-up karaoke room within a cab including, mics, screens and some all-time classic karaoke tunes. Each person who took part was challenged to sing their heart out in exchange for a free taxi ride. The videos provided shareable content which we have seeded via Karaoke Box’s social channels.

Big Cat are thrilled to have worked on such an exciting and much needed addition to the Birmingham social scene, now let’s get the drinks in, pick a song and start belting…
